Partial Retraction Of Post On Animal Value And Neural Number
Read the original on Slate Star Codex →
Summary
A short partial-retraction of SSC-760 (the animal-moral-value / cortical-neuron-count survey). Commenter Tibbar replicated it on 263 Mechanical Turkers and got quite different numbers (e.g. lobster 60 vs Scott's 160; chicken 25 vs 320). Scott partially retracts — only partially, since MTurkers are a different, less-thoughtful demographic than his vegetarian/animal-rights-aware sample — adds it to his Mistakes page, and notes he's blown his chance to re-run it cleanly now that he's told everyone.
Why this score
Quality 52 · Solid. Solid (admin/meta). A brief retraction note; content-light, but the public retraction + Mistakes-page entry + honest self-aware caveat carry the epistemic-virtue that lifts it slightly above a bare admin stub. Scored in the admin/meta-stub band.
Claude’s paradigm shift 15 · None. None (15). A retraction note; no novel content.
Real-world impact 1 · Negligible. Negligible (1). A meta correction; the epistemic virtue is admirable but there's no real-world reach.
