The Group House
Summary
Occasioned by moving into a unit beside the 'Valinor' group house, Scott builds an extended self-model from the Silmarillion's Teleri — not the obedient Vanyar (serviam) nor the rebellious Noldor (non serviam) but the liminal Sea-Elves who accept the divine plan, get distracted by pretty rocks, settle on the island between Paradise and the world, and end up as conduits (Cirdan/Earendil). 'I don't believe in God, but I like Him… I'd like to think I can at least be a Teleri.' Erudite, self-revealing, beautifully written — undercut on purpose by 'everyone's already calling it the Scottage.'
Why this score
Quality 68 · Strong. Strong, high: one of the best Tumblr pieces — genuinely moving, deeply-read, and a real articulation of a values-identity (vaguely-on-the-side-of-Good, not-a-joiner, conduit); short of Excellent only because it's a personal literary meditation. 68.
Claude’s paradigm shift 50 · Moderate. Moderate: the Teleri-as-self-model is an original, memorable construction built on existing myth. 50.
Real-world impact 1 · Negligible. A personal meditation; no material reach. RWI 1.
Humor 1/5 · Lizardman’s Constant. Gate at 1 (Lizardman): earnest throughout, with the single deflating 'Scottage' joke at the end — barely nonzero.
